Social Development Internship 2025 (New York)

Position Summary

The Inclusivity Project (TIP) is seeking a passionate and motivated Social Development Intern to support the work of the NGO Committee for Social Development (NGO CSocD). This role will involve supporting the coordination of events, outreach efforts, and advocacy campaigns conducted by the The Inclusivity Project focusing on activities and events of the NGO CSocD, particularly surrounding the annual Commission for Social Development and preparations for the 2025 World Social Summit. The intern will also provide administrative support, contribute to strategic planning efforts, and work closely with the NGO CSocD Communications Subcommittee to develop digital content for the website, social media, and other publicity platforms. By providing direct support to the Chair of the NGO CSocD, the intern will gain in-depth experience in how civil society conducts advocacy at the UN and contribute to the Committee’s mission of advancing social development goals at the UN level.

Accountability

The intern will report to the Global UN Engagement Coordinator of TIP. The intern will also work under the supervision of the Executive Committee of the NGO Committee for Social Development.

Location & Hours

This position is based in New York, NY, USA. The organization typically operates globally with flexible working hours, typically in the morning Eastern Time to ensure adequate working hours for colleagues based in Asia.

This position is a part-time hybrid role, with typically 5 hours of work per day on three days per week, attending the office in the UN Church Centre at least once per week. Regular in-person meetings inside the UN Headquarters or in direct vicinity will take place several times per month.

Desired Background Experience and Skills

  • An interest in working with NGOs and the social development agenda at the United Nations.
  • Understanding of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other international frameworks.
  • Experience with collaborative projects, event planning, and promotion; ability to organize complex programming logistics and host hybrid events.
  • Flexibility/capacity to work from a variety of locations and ability to come in person to The Inclusivity Project office.
  • Experience with tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Zoom, Canva, Mailchimp, and WordPress.
  • Somed experience creating content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in another language is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Support NGO CSocD Secretariat work, in particularly leading up to and during the 63rd Commission for Social Development.
  • Attend and assist NGO CSocD Secretariat in preparing for Monthly Committee and Executive Meetings.
  • Generate flyers and graphics as needed to promote the NGO CSocD’s activities.
  • Write and contribute to internal and external reports for the Committee as needed.
  • Stay informed about developments at the UN related to social development, the World Social Summit, the Commission for Social Development, and the CSocD63 priority theme.
  • Report to and collaborate with staff at The Inclusivity Project and partner organizations.
  • Perform any other duties as determined by TIP´s Global UN Engagement Coordinator
  • Handle general office administration tasks at The Inclusivity Project, including assisting with the logistical coordination for events and other organizational activities.
  • Provide occasional support for UN group visits, including coordinating logistics for human rights defenders from abroad, facilitating supplier payments, obtaining quotes for materials, and managing incoming postal mail.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of all sensitive information received by The Inclusivity Project, ensuring strict confidentiality and exercising appropriate care to prevent unauthorized disclosure. The intern will not disclose any confidential information without prior express authorization from The Inclusivity Project.
  • Assist with miscellaneous tasks as needed to support the overall activities of the organization.
